Crews Wright<\/strong>, a 17-year-old from Samson, Alabama, is quickly proving himself to be a standout contestant on this season of\u00a0American Idol<\/em>. On Monday evening (Mar. 31), his fate on the show was sealed after he delivered an impressive cover of Conway Twitty\u2019s \u201cGoodbye Time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prior to taking the \u201cIdol Arena\u201d stage, Wright compared Hollywood week on\u00a0American Idol<\/em>\u00a0to a rodeo. \u201cThe arena\u2019s definitely given me some personal vibes. They said that this shindig was going to be something like an arena. That\u2019s what they\u2019re going to call it this year. So I used to rodeo. I started riding horses before I can walk. The rodeo arena and this arena have a lot in common,\u201d Wright explained ahead of his performance. \u201cI feel like this is the bull riding here. Your adrenaline\u2019s rushing. Whenever you go into an arena, you\u2019re sitting there nervous like a cat in a room full of rocking chairs. Everybody\u2019s going crazy. Your heart\u2019s pounding 90 miles an hour.\u201d<\/p>\n

Keeping Traditional Country Music Alive With Cover Of \u201cGoodbye Time\u201d by Conway Twitty<\/h2>\n

Donning blue jeans, a salmon-colored pearl snap shirt and a straw cowboy hat,\u00a0Crews Wright\u00a0entered the stage with confidence as his mom cheered him on from the crowd inside the Orpheum Theater in Los Angeles. \u201cYou got this Crews, do what you do, shine!\u201d his mom shouted.<\/p>\n

Wright explained to the Idol judges why he should remain in the competition before performing. \u201cI feel I should be the next\u00a0American Idol<\/em> because I believe in keeping traditional country alive,\u201d he said. \u201cMusic isn\u2019t about something that\u2019s trending, and it\u2019s about something that lasts. That\u2019s right. And I try to leave a little piece of me on every stage I walk across. So I\u2019m going to give you a little bit of that today.\u201d<\/p>\n
