A little over a year later, she would release her debut album\u00a0<em>Girl Going Nowhere<\/em>. The album\u2019s title track talks about all the people who told her she would never make it in Nashville. More importantly, it\u2019s an \u201cI told you so\u201d to all of those people.<\/p>\n<p>When McBryde stepped into the Circle for the first time, she performed that song. It was a near-perfect introduction to the Arkansas native. It was also a deeply emotional moment for her. At one point during the performance, her emotions almost get the best of her. Fortunately, she was able to push through it and finish the song. She wasn\u2019t kidding.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<em>Songfacts<\/em>, McBryde co-wrote \u201cGirl Goin\u2019 Nowhere\u201d with Jeremy Bussey the day Guy Clark, who was one of her musical heroes, died. She was emotional when she arrived at her co-writing session with Bussey. To calm her down, the veteran songwriter asked her if she\u2019d ever played the Grand Ole Opry, and she told him she hadn\u2019t. So, he told her, \u201cAll we have to do today is write what you\u2019d like to say to all those people the first time you step into the Circle. And, let\u2019s write it in such a way that if Guy Clark had to listen to it, he wouldn\u2019t mind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>McBryde revealed that one of her teachers was a major inspiration for the song in an\u00a0interview with Billboard. She recalled that she was sitting in Algebra class when the teacher started asking students what they wanted to be when they grew up. \u201cMy answer was that I was going to move to Nashville and write songs. I was going to be on the radio, whether I was singing them or somebody else was,\u201d she recalled. \u201cIn front of the whole class, she looked at me and said, \u2018That\u2019s stupid. That won\u2019t happen.
