Me and her both loved Carrie Underwood, so impressing her is like the top of the line for me,\u201d the hopeful contestant shared.<\/p>\n<p>Lionel Richie,\u00a0Carrie Underwood\u00a0and\u00a0Luke Bryan\u00a0were hooked the minute Ray began singing. The Georgia native entered the room radiating positivity, but the judges were quick to pick up on the fact that there was clear sadness hanging onto every word of the song.<\/p>\n<p>This promoted Byran to ask, \u201cWhat were you thinking about when you sang that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She proceeded to stir up even more emotions as she explained that she was thinking about her sister who passed away in February from an overdose.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLosing her hurts a lot because she was a year younger than me. We were very close. She had two little boys, and knowing they don\u2019t have their mom anymore is really heartbreaking. Much like his fellow judges, the country star appeared to be blown away by the singer standing in front of him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t really overthink it, and it felt very listenable. It\u2019s a yes for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Samantha Ray earned a \u201cyes\u201d from Underwood and Richie as well, securing her ticket to Hollywood.<\/p>\n<p>American Idol fans can tune into the show to see Pruitt\u2019s journey unfold throughout the competition.
