Nina Daig<\/strong>, a Beaverdam, Virginia native, paid tribute to her brother Joey with an emotional performance of an original song, titled \u201cAverage Joe,\u201d on\u00a0American Idol<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Idol Audition Marked Daig\u2019s First Time Ever Performing In Front Of Anyone<\/h2>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s like three churches and a gas station and y\u2019all are going to be the first people that I\u2019m singing in front of,\u201d Daig told the\u00a0Idol<\/em>\u00a0judges, comprised of Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood and Luke Bryan, who asked if she ever performs live. \u201cNo, I just write songs. It\u2019s just what I do, and they\u2019re secret and then all this happened,\u201d the contestant replied.<\/p>\n

Nina Daig then detailed why she dedicated her\u00a0Idol<\/em>\u00a0audition to her brother Joey. \u201cMy brother, Joey, is three and a half years older than me. Growing up, people would ask if we were twins because we both just had the same level of chaos going on,\u201d she explained. \u201cMentally, he\u2019s about three or four. He was born not breathing and there\u2019s lack of oxygen, and it caused brain damage. He\u2019s really taught me, more than any other experience in my life, to trust in myself. Since I was little. I was love singing, standing on the bed with the CD player, going, I just have a lot of insecurities and started telling myself that it\u2019s not good enough and no one wants to hear it. So it\u2019s not that I didn\u2019t want to be a musician, but it\u2019s just never something I thought possible. But growing up, I watched Joey his whole life. He doesn\u2019t care what people think. He\u2019s just happy that he\u2019s him, and he accepts himself fully. I think I\u2019m still learning from him in a lot of ways. I mean, he\u2019s the reason I\u2019m here.\u201d<\/p>\n

Paid Tribute To Brother Joey With \u201cAverage Joe\u201d<\/h2>\n

Daig poured her heart into an emotional performance of her original song, \u201cAverage Joe,\u201d which she wrote as a tribute to her brother Joey.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd it didn\u2019t make no difference\/ the laughs or the cries or the tears from my eyes\/ I\u2019m done asking why because I\u2019ve seen the light\/ God made me for you\/ to help you get through\/ and you for me to set my heart free\/ sometimes we get looks\/ but if you taught me one thing, they\u2019re just learning how to love,\u201d Daig sang.<\/p>\n
