And he isn\u2019t entirely certain that he would have advised his younger self to do anything differently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was a rough patch there in my early 20s when you couldn\u2019t really tell me anything,\u201d said the \u201cThere Was This Girl\u201d singer. \u201cSo, I don\u2019t know if I would have listened anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u201cBut as far as the music thing goes, there\u2019s been a lot of things that I sort of had to learn the hard way comin\u2019 through. But you know, I don\u2019t know how much I would change. I\u2019d probably just tell him to write as many songs as he could and play the guitar every night before you go to sleep. Maybe concentrate less on sports, \u2019cause that didn\u2019t really take me as far as the guitar has.
