Luke Bryan stepped away from the judges\u2019 desk to perform with finalist John Foster during Sunday night\u2019s\u00a0American Idol<\/em>\u00a0Season 23 finale.<\/h2>\n

American Idol<\/em>\u2018s favorite country hopeful, John Foster, took the stage four times during the season finale Sunday night (May 18). He joined his fellow finalists, Jamal Roberts and Breanna Nix, to sing Queen\u2019s \u201cWe Are The Champions\u201d before taking the stage to perform two solos.<\/p>\n

Foster stayed true to his country roots with solo performances of John Denver\u2019s \u201cTake Me Home, Country Roads\u201d and Toby Keith\u2019s \u201cCourtesy of the Red, White and Blue.\u201d He also teamed up with judge Luke Bryan to honor country legend Randy Travis with a cover of \u201cDeeper Than The Holler.\u201d<\/p>\n

Luke Bryan took the stage solo to perform \u201cCountry Song Came On\u201d then invited John Foster to join him onstage. The two delivered a pure country rendition of Randy Travis\u2019s classic tune.<\/p>\n

Viewers took to social media to praise the performance with many pointing out John\u2019s 90s country sound.<\/p>\n

John Foster has had the support of the country music fan community since his audition, though those fans didn\u2019t have a say in the teen\u2019s fate until the live episodes. Foster earned the support of Carrie Underwood and Lionel Richie after his audition performances of Alan Jackson\u2019s \u201cDon\u2019t Rock the Jukebox\u201d and Conway Twitty\u2019s \u201cGoodbye Time.\u201d Luke Bryan gave him a \u201cyes\u201d but wasn\u2019t sure John had what it took to make it through the many rounds of competition.<\/p>\n

Foster proved Luke wrong, something that the country star admitted following\u00a0Foster\u2019s Top 8 performance of George Strait\u2019s \u201cI Cross My Heart.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw a clip of me saying I didn\u2019t know if you could sing good enough back in your audition. And, man, no one has ever proved me more wrong,\u201d Luke told John at the time. \u201cI am so proud of you.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

America has continued to vote John Foster through week after week, proof that country music is excited about new, raw talent in the genre.<\/p>\n
