First Military Parade Since Gulf War Held In D.C.<\/h2>\n

It\u2019s a sight one doesn\u2019t see every day, especially in the United States, but a military parade was held in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, June 14.<\/p>\n

This is the first military parade since the nation\u2019s victory in the Gulf War in 1991.<\/p>\n

The parade, which was met with criticism by some opponents to\u00a0President Donald Trump, began at 6 p.m. on June 14, and saw an estimated 6,600 troops march down Constitution Ave NW, between 15th Street and 23rd Street, in the nation\u2019s capital.<\/p>\n

The occasion? The 250th anniversary of the oldest branch of the nation\u2019s military, the\u00a0U.S. Army.<\/p>\n

Promising that it would be a\u00a0\u201ccelebration, one like you\u2019ve never seen before,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0Trump added, in a\u00a0video statement shared by the White House to Instagram,\u00a0\u201cOn June 14, which is Flag Day, we\u2019re honoring the 250th anniversary of the greatest fighting force in history, the United States Army.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Notably, the day is also Flag Day and the 79th birthday of Trump.<\/p>\n

About The Parade<\/h2>\n

Coming one year prior to the nation\u2019s 250th birthday, marked by the July 4, 1776, signing of the Declaration of Independence, this parade comes about in the year which marks the 250th anniversary of \u201cthe shot heard around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Battles of Lexington and Concord were fought on April 19, 1775, and saw the American colonial militia take on British forces for the first time.<\/p>\n

On June 14, 1775, the Second Continental Congress voted to create the Continental Army, which would go on to become the U.S. Army.<\/p>\n

Celebrating this day, Trump said there will be\u00a0\u201cthundering tanks and breathtaking flyovers \u2026 as nearly 7,000 soldiers march in historic uniforms from every major war since the Revolution.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

It is estimated that this parade will cost up to $40 million to put on.<\/p>\n

Taking The Oath, And A Warren Zeiders Performance<\/h2>\n

Partway through the parade, President Donald Trump administered the oath to recent graduates of the United States Military Academy at West Point.<\/p>\n

There, repeating after the commander-in-chief, they swore to\u00a0\u201csupport and defend the constitution of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

After administering the oath, Trump said,\u00a0\u201cCongratulations. Welcome to the United States Army, and have a great life!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Then, country singer\u00a0Warren Zeiders\u00a0took the stage, singing \u201cPretty Little Poison.\u201d<\/p>\n

After singing, Zeiders expressed he was\u00a0\u201cnervous,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0but told the soldiers who had just taken their oath to join the Army, \u201cI am just so fortunate to be here in front of y\u2019all, and thank you guys so much for what you guys do, and, honestly, happy birthday, y\u2019all.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

He then performed \u201cRide The Lightning.\u201d<\/p>\n
