The death of a beloved celebrity chef is being\u00a0investigated as a possible drug overdose<\/span>\u00a0after she was discovered on the floor of her bathroom surrounded by 100\u00a0pills.<\/p>\n

Anne Burrell, 55, who hosted Secrets of a Restaurant Chef and co-hosted Worst Cooks in America,\u00a0was found dead inside her Brooklyn apartment on Tuesday<\/span>.<\/p>\n

The Food Network star was found\u00a0\u2018in the shower unconscious and unresponsive surrounded by approximately (100) assorted pills\u2019, according to NYPD\u00a0documents seen by\u00a0The New York Times.<\/p>\n

Emergency medical teams responded to the home that she shared with her husband Stuart Claxton but she was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

A spokeswoman for the city\u2019s medical examiner\u2019s office confirmed that Burrell\u2019s autopsy had been completed but findings on the exact cause of her death are still pending.<\/p>\n

Claxton reportedly\u00a0last saw his wife alive at about 1AM the night\u00a0<\/span>prior before discovering her unconscious between six to seven hours later in their bathroom.<\/p>\n

It was reported earlier this week that EMS crews had attempted CPR on Burrell but could not resuscitate her.<\/p>\n

Her family said in a statement: \u2018Anne was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, stepmother, and friend \u2014 her smile lit up every room she entered.<\/p>\n

\u2018Anne\u2019s light radiated far beyond those she knew, touching millions across the world. Though she is no longer with us, her warmth, spirit, and boundless love remain eternal.\u2019<\/p>\n

A Food Network spokesperson added, \u2018Anne was a remarkable person and culinary talent \u2013 teaching, competing and always sharing the importance of food in her life and the joy that a delicious meal can bring.<\/p>\n

\u2018Our thoughts are with Anne\u2019s family, friends and fans during this time of tremendous loss.\u2019<\/p>\n

Just hours before her passing Burrell\u00a0had performed a improv show at a comedy club in Brooklyn<\/span>, after having taken classes at the venue\u2019s training center.<\/p>\n

In a podcast earlier this year she spoke with\u00a0Tori Spelling on taking the classes and how she planned to expand her horizons.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She said: \u2018I just started taking acting classes. I started yesterday, actually\u2026 It\u2019s like an improv for actors\u2019 class.<\/p>\n

\u2018I got there and it\u2019s like eight people in the class. I\u2019m the oldest one. Every other person has like, \u201cOh, I have a master\u2019s in fine arts in theater.\u201d\u2018<\/p>\n

Burrell showed off her self-awareness and sense of humor that her fans were familiar with as she joked about the age gap between she and her fellow students.<\/p>\n

She said: \u2018I\u2019m like, \u201cokay, I\u2019ve never taken an acting class. I don\u2019t know, this is new to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018I wonder if these delightful and super talented kids look at me and they\u2019re like, \u201cWhat\u2019s this old lady doing here?\u201d\u2018<\/p>\n

The television personality had taken a break from her show Worst Cooks In America for season 28 which baffled many fans and Spelling, 52, asked at the time what led her to that decision.<\/p>\n

Burrell answered: \u2018I can cook, yes, I can do TV, but also, what else? I\u2019ve got more to do in my life, I feel like.\u2019<\/p>\n

She also admitted that she was just \u2018dipping my toe\u2019 when it came to the pivot to acting.<\/p>\n

Burrell explained: \u2018I feel very excited about it. I\u2019ve got a few other things that I\u2019m working on as well, which I\u2019m not quite ready to share yet. Hopefully, exciting [are] things coming.\u2019<\/p>\n

In an exclusive interview with the Daily Mail in April, she talked animatedly about how much she was enjoying married life, claiming it was so easy that she felt they were still in the honeymoon phase, and also joked about plans to star on\u00a0Meghan Markle<\/span>\u2019s\u00a0Netflix<\/span>\u00a0show.<\/p>\n

\u2018October will be four years,\u2019 she said at the City Harvest gala. \u2018It seems like it\u2019s been four minutes. I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s a honeymoon [phase], but I feel like it\u2019s settled into married life days which I really enjoy.\u2019<\/p>\n

She also revealed how she would make scones for her husband as she discussed Markle\u2019s show.<\/p>\n

\u2018Sure, of course. I\u2019d go to the opening of an envelope. Why not cook with Meghan?\u2019 she laughed after being asked if she would want to be a guest.<\/p>\n

Gigi Hadid, who famously appeared on the cooking competition series Beat Bobby Flay with Burrell,\u00a0led the celebrities expressing their heartbreak over Burrell\u2019s death<\/span>.<\/p>\n

\u2018I am heartbroken to\u00a0hear of the loss of the Great Anne Burrell<\/span>,\u2019 the supermodel, 30, began.<\/p>\n

Hadid included a photo of herself and Burrell from their time filming Beat Bobby Flay back in 2023.<\/p>\n

\u2018As a longtime fan, getting to share this day with her was a dream come true. Beat Bobby. Hang. Eat,\u2019 she recalled.<\/p>\n

\u2018I wish we could have done it again. She was awesome. Rest in Peace Legend.\u2019<\/p>\n

Chef Carla Hall, who previously appeared on Food Network\u2019s Top Chef, called Burrell an \u2018incredible cook and teacher.\u2019<\/p>\n

Queer Eye for the Straight Guy star Carson Kressley, who was a close friend of Burrell\u2019s, revealed that he spoke to her just days before her death.<\/p>\n

He also shared a post to his own Instagram page which included a photo of him and Burrell.<\/p>\n

\u2018Rest easy, Chef Anne. I\u2019m so blessed I was able to work with you, learn from you, laugh with you.<\/p>\n

\u2018So many memories \u2013 on screen and off \u2013 I cherish this photo of us living our best lives, as the kids say,\u2019 Kressley wrote.<\/p>\n

To conclude the tribute, Kressley revealed that \u2018Anne loved this photo of us so I know she\u2019d be happy I chose this one.\u2019<\/p>\n

The TV chef \u2013 who became synonymous with her trademark spiky platinum hair \u2013 is survived by husband, whom she wed in October 2021 in an autumn-themed ceremony and reception in her hometown of Cazenovia, New York.<\/p>\n

She is also survived by her mother Marlene and sister Jane and her children Isabella, Amelia and Nicolas, and her brother Ben.<\/p>\n

Anne developed a passion for cooking at a young age, inspired by her mother\u2019s home-cooked meals and by watching food icon Julia Child on television.<\/p>\n

After earning a degree in English and Communications from Canisius College in Buffalo in 1991, she followed her culinary dreams and enrolled at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, graduating in 1996.<\/p>\n

She worked at a whole host of New York City hotspots including Felidia and Savoy in Soho, where she honed her craft in Mediterranean cuisine.<\/p>\n

She was later thrust into the spotlight and became best known as the longtime host of Worst Cooks in America.<\/p>\n

The show, which ran for 28 seasons, saw celebrated chefs mentor amateur cooks in an attempt to transform them from rookies to kitchen experts.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere, she appeared on Chef Wanted, Chopped, Food Network Star, and most recently, competition series House of Knives \u2013 which premiered in March this year.<\/p>\n
