During Monday\u2019s episode of\u00a0On Air with Ryan Seacrest<\/strong><\/em>,<\/strong>\u00a0the longtime radio host broke down in tears while detailing his dad\u2019s struggle with the disease. Seacrest, 50, shared his father\u2019s battle as he and his co-hosts were congratulating beloved producer, Dennis Clark, on the announcement that he was now in remission.<\/section>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t shared this on the air because it has been very private for me and my family as it was something that was extremely hard to see with my father,\u201d Seacrest said, adding that he has a \u201cvery close relationship\u201d with his dad, who will turn 81 in a few days.<\/section>\n
The\u00a0American Idol<\/em>\u00a0host said his father was diagnosed with prostate cancer \u201cyears ago,\u201d noting that his dad\u2019s condition \u201cgot better\u201d after undergoing treatment, before it then \u201cgot worse and it spread.\u201d<\/section>\n

\u201cWhen this happens to somebody or someone really close to you that you love, this is a hard thing to see, because the treatments that are commonly recommended can be barbaric to the system. They can cause so much damage to your body in other ways,\u201d he explained.<\/section>\n
Seacrest said chemotherapy \u201cdidn\u2019t go well\u201d for Gary, adding that he caught pneumonia earlier this year. He recalled how during a live show of\u00a0American Idol<\/em>\u00a0last season, his sister, Meredith, called him, and revealed that their father was in the hospital.<\/section>\n
\u201cShe said, \u2018Dad is in the ICU, and how fast can you get here?’\u201d Seacrest recalled, adding that he\u2019s \u201cnever really spoken about this.\u201d<\/section>\n
He noted that he \u201cfinished\u201d the live show, but he \u201cdidn\u2019t even remember what I was saying\u201d when he was on air. When the taping ended, Seacrest immediately flew to his hometown of Atlanta, arriving at the hospital in the \u201cearly morning.\u201d<\/section>\n
