Ozzy Osbourne<\/span>\u2019s longtime guitarist and close friend Zakk Wylde has revealed the heartbreaking final text he received from the rock icon before his death at age 76.<\/p>\n

The legendary Black Sabbath frontman passed away last week at his home in Buckinghamshire, just weeks after giving fans an emotional farewell at his final show.<\/p>\n

Wylde first joined Ozzy\u2019s world in 1987 and remained a key figure throughout the late singer\u2019s career, weaving in and out of his band during the \u201990s and early 2000s before officially rejoining him in 2017 for the No More Tours II tour \u2014 Ozzy\u2019s final run.<\/p>\n

He was also by the Prince of Darkness\u2019s side during his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2024, and again during his last-ever performance on July 5, 2025, in\u00a0Birmingham<\/span>, England.<\/p>\n

\u2018It was definitely pretty amazing. Seeing Oz onstage when Sabbath got done, that\u2019s the last time I saw him,\u2019 Wydle told\u00a0Guitarist\u00a0on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Reflecting on the final time they spoke, Wylde added, \u2018Everybody and their mother were in the backstage dressing room and I just wanted to give him a break. I figured we\u2019d see him later on \u2013 the next day or whatever. But no.<\/p>\n

\u2018The last text I got from Oz was saying, \u201cZakky, sorry, it was like a madhouse back there. I didn\u2019t see you.\u201d He goes, \u201cThanks for everything.\u201d It was just us talking, saying, \u201cI love you, buddy.\u201d That was it.\u2019<\/p>\n

Wylde went on to reflect on their decades-long bond, describing Ozzy as more than just a musical partner.<\/p>\n

\u2018Oz was just the best,\u2019 he said. \u2018I have my father, who was a World War II veteran; and then Ozzy, who was almost like an older brother. There was almost a 20-year age gap between us. With our relationship, there was the fun drinking \u2013 but if I ever needed advice, I could talk to him.\u2019<\/p>\n

Despite their playful dynamic, Wylde said that when it came to making music, everything just clicked.<\/p>\n

\u2018It felt natural with Oz. Very rarely would things turn into a math equation, where you needed a manual to figure out a part. If that starts it\u2019s probably not going to happen.\u2019<\/p>\n

He also recalled their instant chemistry when they first met \u2014 and how Ozzy\u2019s personality made him easy to connect with.<\/p>\n

\u2018It was \u2013 with all your friends in your life, lions attract lions, you know? And the hyenas you hang out with, that sorts itself out later! But Ozzy was the easiest-going, warmest guy. He was so easy to get along with.\u2019<\/p>\n

Over the years, Wylde said Ozzy wasn\u2019t just a mentor, but a source of wisdom when life got messy.<\/p>\n

And when anything would happen, Oz would be like, \u201cOh, Zakk, I remember with Sabbath, this or that\u2026\u201d Things about thinking someone was a good guy, and they end up screwing you over.<\/p>\n

\u2018All of us live and learn on our own too, but Oz would always be there. He\u2019d poke me in the eye and I\u2019d be like, \u201cWhat was that for?\u201d He\u2019d say, \u201cLife\u2019s tough, that\u2019s why!\u201d I\u2019d go, \u201cYeah, but I really didn\u2019t need that.\u201d He\u2019d go, \u201cWhatever \u2013 go make me a sandwich, and go light on the Coleman\u2019s!\u201d\u2019<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Ozzy\u2019s grieving widow Sharon was surrounded by her children and thousands of devoted fans as she laid a single rose during an emotional farewell in Birmingham on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The music legend was honored with a moving funeral procession through his hometown, where the cortege made a solemn stop at Black Sabbath Bridge \u2014 a symbolic site that quickly became a sea of flowers, tributes, and heartfelt cheers.<\/p>\n

Sharon stood alongside Ozzy\u2019s children \u2014 Jack, Kelly, and Aimee \u2014 as well as his eldest son Louis, from his first marriage to Thelma Riley. Together, they placed floral offerings and raised peace signs to the crowd, visibly touched by the outpouring of love.<\/p>\n

A live brass band, Bostin\u2019 Brass, led the cortege through the streets, playing stirring renditions of Black Sabbath classics like Iron Man, while emotional fans wept, clapped, and sang every word.<\/p>\n
