Kelly Clarkson returned to her old\u00a0The Voice\u00a0<\/em>stomping grounds to perform her latest single, \u201cWhere Have You Been.\u201d<\/h2>\n

Four seasons ago,\u00a0Kelly Clarkson\u00a0abandoned her red\u00a0Voice<\/em>\u00a0coach\u2019s chair to focus on her self-titled talk show. On Monday, the \u201cSince U Been Gone\u201d singer returned to the iconic studio at Universal Studios in Hollywood where she served as a coach for nine seasons.<\/p>\n

She took the stage to perform her latest single, \u201cWhere Have You Been.\u201d The song was released in early May 2025 and marked a milestone moment for Clarkson.<\/p>\n

In January, the\u00a0American Idol<\/em>\u00a0champ revealed that she had started her own record label, High Road Records, and left her longtime label, Atlantic Records. The new single was written by Clarkson and her guitarist, Jaco Caraco, and marks her first independent release since leaving Atlantic.<\/p>\n

Kelly Clarkson shared the inspiration behind her new song.<\/h2>\n

In a video posted to\u00a0The Kelly Clarkson Show<\/em>\u2018s YouTube channel, Kelly revealed that legendary actor Martin Short\u2019s character inspired the song in\u00a0Only Murders in the Buildin<\/em>g.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love\u00a0Martin Short, and I\u2019ve always loved him. I believe it\u2019s the first time\u00a0Meryl [Streep]\u00a0came in that show, but she was on stage, and \u2014\u00a0it was about Martin Short\u2019s face,\u201d Kelly explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe came up, and he was just in such awe. It was just a pure moment, and everything on his face when he said those words, he looked at her, and he was just so in awe, and he was like, \u2018Where have you been?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Clarkson said that she kept going back to that scene with Martin Short and compared it to the\u00a0heartbreak she\u2019s endured\u00a0in recent years.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought I had found what it was going to be. I thought this. I was wrong,\u201d said Clarkson. \u201cBut now you see it standing in front of you. I was so moved, and so that whole song came out of those words from Martin Short.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kelly Clarkson Sings \u201cWhere Have You Been\u201d On\u00a0The Voice<\/em><\/h2>\n

Kelly Clarkson\u2019s appearance\u00a0The Voice<\/em>\u00a0finale marks the latest in a string of live performances of her new song. She debuted the tune on\u00a0The Today Show\u00a0<\/em>following its release. The next week she played the song on\u00a0The Kelly Clarkson Show<\/em>\u00a0as part of her Kellyoke segment.<\/p>\n

Kelly teased her\u00a0Voice<\/em>\u00a0performance ahead of the live show, saying that she was \u201cso excited\u201d to be back. But Clarkson wasn\u2019t the only former coach who returned to perform on the Season 27 finale.<\/p>\n

OG coach Blake Shelton also took the stage to sing his latest single,\u00a0Texas<\/em>. Alicia Keys, who coached for three seasons, performed with Amanda Reid. And two-time coach Chance The Rapper also performed.<\/p>\n
