He subsequently spent years receiving treatment at Patton State Hospital, while family friend and conservator Mela Murphy later reported encouraging signs of progress, including his participation in life-skills programs and renewed faith. In 2026, after his competency was restored, Redmond returned to court and attracted considerable attention because of his dramatically changed appearance, including prominent facial tattoos. His attorney entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf as proceedings continued.
