Before the ride, his father Scott reminded him, \u201cBrothers stick together,\u201d and Caleb replied, \u201cI know, Dad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"341\" data-end=\"599\">During the ride, Caleb\u2019s raft became airborne and struck part of the overhead structure, causing fatal injuries. His brother Nathan witnessed the tragedy and ran to tell their parents, turning an ordinary day at the water park into an unimaginable nightmare.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"601\" data-end=\"868\">The accident led to major investigations into the slide\u2019s design, testing, and operation. Criminal charges were eventually dismissed, Verr\u00fcckt never reopened and was later dismantled, while Caleb\u2019s family reached civil settlements reportedly worth nearly $20 million.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"870\" data-end=\"1114\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">For the Schwab family, however, the tragedy was never mainly about lawsuits or the record-breaking attraction.
