Millie had recently gone into remission, but her hair had not completely grown back, and several boys had been mocking her appearance. Letty decided to cut her own hair so it could help make a wig for her friend. Our stylist friend Teresa repaired Letty\u2019s uneven haircut and prepared the donation. When Teresa\u2019s husband Luis, who had worked beside Jonathan for eight years, heard what happened, he contacted Jonathan\u2019s former coworkers. To them, Letty\u2019s compassion immediately reminded them of the man who had once covered their shifts, brought extra lunches, and helped coworkers whenever they were struggling.<\/p>\n

Jonathan\u2019s former supervisor, Marcus, then handed me an envelope containing a message in my husband\u2019s handwriting. Before his death, Jonathan had helped establish an employee-supported fund for families overwhelmed by cancer-related expenses, and his coworkers had continued contributing after he was gone. Now they wanted the fund to help Millie\u2019s family. Meanwhile, Principal Brennan revealed that Millie\u2019s bullying had become so severe that she had been eating lunch in the nurse\u2019s bathroom for two weeks just to avoid the boys.
