At the bottom was a note promising that although there wasn&#8217;t enough yet, we would keep going. It wasn&#8217;t an expensive gift, but it showed me exactly how much Ray had quietly given up for my future.<\/p>\n<p>Three hours later, my biological father suddenly appeared with a brand-new black car and offered me the keys, calling it a fresh start. Then he looked at Ray and bragged that Ray could never give me anything like it. So I asked my father what position I played in football, which colleges I was considering, and what subject I had nearly failed. He couldn&#8217;t answer.
