These include ehrlichiosis, tularemia, Southern Tick-Associated Rash Illness, and alpha-gal syndrome, an allergy that can trigger delayed reactions after eating mammalian meat. Symptoms that deserve attention include fever, headache, muscle aches, an expanding rash, swelling, hives, nausea, or unusual allergic reactions after eating red meat.

If a Lone Star tick is attached to the skin, it should be removed promptly using fine-tipped tweezers. Grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible and pull upward steadily without twisting. Afterward, clean the area with soap and water or antiseptic, and consider keeping the tick in a sealed container or taking a clear photograph for identification. Methods involving petroleum jelly, nail polish, or heat should be avoided because they can irritate the area and do not improve removal.

For about 30 days after a bite, watch for fever, flu-like symptoms, rashes, or delayed allergic reactions. A healthcare professional should be contacted if symptoms develop, if the tick was attached for a long time, or if you are unsure how long it was present. Prevention also matters: protective clothing, EPA-approved repellents, showering after outdoor activities, careful body checks, and proper tick prevention for pets can all reduce the chance of future bites.

The Lone Star tick, scientifically known as Amblyomma americanum, is commonly found across the southeastern, eastern, and south-central United States and has…

[1

post-44708","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news
<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.2 -
