She reportedly earned around $100,000 annually and appeared in films alongside stars such as Bettie Page, becoming one of the highest-paid performers of her era.<\/p>\n<p>But her personal life was equally extraordinary. In 1959, she married Black jazz singer and actor Herb Jeffries, challenging racial barriers at a time when interracial marriage remained illegal in many American states. Their relationship attracted controversy and reportedly cost her professional opportunities.
