A plan for the duet

Before they began, Top and Frasure worked out how to divide the song: Top would sing the first verse, with Frasure taking the next. Top also acknowledged the song’s history, joking about the possibility of falling short of the earlier versions before the pair started.

The arrangement gave Frasure a clear moment in the spotlight, rather than limiting the invitation to a brief appearance. When his verse arrived, he took the microphone and sang alongside Top. The performance was described as a standout part of the concert, turning a spontaneous invitation into a full duet.

The moment’s appeal lay in the contrast between its simple beginning and the song they chose. Top noticed one young fan in the crowd, and Frasure quickly named a familiar country favorite rather than waiting to settle on a selection. Their split-verse plan then gave both performers a turn with the song.

“Tennessee Whiskey” has been recorded by several artists, and Chris Stapleton’s 2015 rendition brought the song renewed attention. Top referenced the versions by Jones, Coe and Stapleton as he introduced the performance, treating the song’s legacy with humor while making clear that he and Frasure were about to take it on in their own way.

For Frasure, the invitation meant stepping from the audience into a performance with a country singer in front of a concert crowd. For Top, it was a chance to share the stage and the song with a fan. The Duluth duet put that exchange at the center of the evening, with Frasure taking the verse the pair had agreed would be his.

A FAN SIGN IN DULUTH LED TO A ZACH TOP DUET—AND A 15-YEAR-OLD FAN’S BIG MOMENT WAS JUST A VERSE AWAY.

During his stop at Gas South Arena, Zach spotted 15-year-old Brayden Frasure in the crowd and invited him onstage. It began as a surprise opportunity for one fan on the Cold Beer & Country Music Tour.

Asked what he wanted to sing, Brayden chose “Tennessee Whiskey,” a song with famous versions by George Jones, David Allan Coe and Chris Stapleton.

Zach planned to sing the first verse, leaving the next one to Brayden. He even joked about taking on a song with such a history before they began.

What happened when the teenager stepped up to the microphone turned the invitation into more than a quick guest appearance.

📖 Read the full story in the first comment 👇

[57

post-47332","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-musicflow-soulful-tunes

!["Zach]("https://countrychord.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/10/country-chord-header-image-2026-10-30T093502.672.png")
