become the next secretary of defense under President Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>The Hill\u00a0reported\u00a0Tuesday that Senate Republicans are pressing forward with Hegseth\u2019s nomination despite an affidavit obtained by Senate Democrats from his former sister-in-law that mysteriously showed up this week after Hegseth was successfully voted out of the Armed Services Committee.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-1\">\n<div id=\"v-conservativebrief-0\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n<div id=\"_vdo_ads_player_ai_6869\" class=\"vdo_video_unit vdo_content\">\n<p>The document accuses him of struggling with alcohol abu s\u00a0 \u00a0e and being abu s\u00a0 ive toward his ex-wife, Samantha Hegseth, though his ex-, in a brief statement released on Tuesday, has denied that Hegseth was ever vi\u00a0 ol e nt towards her.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday, Thune filed a motion to end debate on Hegseth\u2019s nomination, which was advanced by the Senate Armed Services Committee in a party-line 14-13 vote
