A devastating family tragedy in Masonville, New York, has ended in a 30-year prison sentence for 33-year-old Drew J. Garnier. On May 15, 2025, Garnier was sentenced after pleading guilty to first-degree manslaughter and assault, admitting to fatally stabbing his pregnant wife, Samantha, and seriously injuring their two children during a violent outburst in September 2024.
Responding to a late-night emergency call at the couple’s residence, New York State Police found 29-year-old Samantha critically wounded, along with their daughters, who suffered serious stab injuries. Samantha and her unborn daughter did not survive, while the children were treated at a Syracuse hospital and are expected to recover.
In court, Samantha’s father revealed a disturbing possible motive — that Drew was angry upon learning their unborn child was a girl. The grieving grandfather has since adopted the surviving girls and vowed to protect them in honor of his daughter’s memory.
Delaware County Judge John L. Hubbard emphasized the permanent damage caused by Drew’s actions, enforcing a no-contact order with the children unless they choose otherwise as adults. Prosecutors described the case as heartbreaking and stated that justice had been served, though no sentence could undo the pain left behind.
