The U.S. Department of Justice, led by Attorney General Pam Bondi, has launched a criminal investigation into New York Attorney General Letitia James following a referral from Trump-appointed FHFA Director William Pulte.
A grand jury in Virginia is issuing subpoenas over allegations James misrepresented a Virginia property as her primary residence to secure favorable mortgage terms.
Pulte also alleges James misrepresented the number of livable units in a Brooklyn property to obtain better loan terms and raised concerns over past mortgage documents listing her and her father as “husband and wife.”
James’ attorney called the claims “baseless” and politically motivated, pointing to recent attacks from Donald Trump. James’ office responded, saying she “won’t be intimidated by bullies.” Critics argue the investigation mirrors the very politicization Trump once denounced.
