Newly released footage shows Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan speaking with federal agents before allegedly helping an illegal immigrant evade arrest after a court appearance. The defendant, Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, was facing domestic abuse and battery charges when ICE agents attempted to detain him.
Prosecutors say Judge Dugan distracted agents and directed them to speak with the chief judge, allowing Flores-Ruiz to exit through a restricted jury door with his attorney. Surveillance video then captured him fleeing before ultimately being arrested outside the courthouse.
Judge Dugan was later indicted on charges of obstructing justice and aiding in preventing an arrest. She pleaded not guilty and is arguing judicial immunity. Meanwhile, the Wisconsin Supreme Court suspended her duties pending trial.
Flores-Ruiz also faces federal charges for reentering the U.S. illegally after a 2013 deportation. His domestic abuse case and immigration-related proceedings are both moving forward in court.
