Retired Admiral Robert Burke of Coconut Creek, Florida, was found guilty this week of bribery and conspiracy after accepting a future job in exchange for steering a government contract to a private company. A federal jury convicted Burke following a five-day trial, and sentencing is scheduled for August 22, 2025.
Burke, who oversaw Navy operations across Europe, Russia, and Africa from 2020 to 2022, secretly coordinated with executives from a training company—referred to as Firm A—to secure a $355,000 contract while negotiating a lucrative post-retirement position.
Despite previous warnings not to engage with the company, Burke used his authority to push the deal forward and later joined the firm with a $500,000 salary and 100,000 stock options. Investigators say he concealed the arrangement from the Navy and filed misleading ethics disclosures.
The case was prosecuted by the DOJ and investigated by the FBI, NCIS, and Defense Criminal Investigative Service. Prosecutors say Burke’s actions betrayed public trust and reflect a broader commitment to holding even high-ranking officials accountable.
