Billy Joel has announced he will no longer perform on his upcoming U.S. tour after being diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a rare brain disorder. The 76-year-old music legend shared the news in a heartfelt statement, citing worsening symptoms that have impacted his hearing, vision, and balance.
Joel revealed that recent performances aggravated his condition, prompting doctors to advise an immediate break from touring. He is currently undergoing targeted physical therapy and focusing on recovery. “Billy is determined to put his health first,” the statement noted.
NPH is caused by excess cerebrospinal fluid in the brain and mainly affects older adults. It can lead to balance issues, cognitive decline, and incontinence, but is sometimes treatable or reversible with the right care.
While fans are saddened by the tour cancellation, Joel expressed deep gratitude for their support. “I am truly sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding,” he said. Wishing him a full and speedy recovery.
