Phil Robertson, the 79-year-old star of Duck Dynasty, has passed away. His family announced the news on May 25, months after revealing his Alzheimer’s diagnosis in December. His son Jase shared on social media that Phil “has gone to be with the Lord,” and granddaughter Sadie posted a tribute with family photos.
Willie and Korie Robertson also honored Phil in a joint Instagram post, thanking fans for their prayers and love. They mentioned that a private service will be held, with details about a public memorial to come later.
Phil’s health had declined quickly since the Alzheimer’s diagnosis. On their Unashamed podcast, Jase said the disease had begun affecting Phil’s entire body and that the family was focused on keeping him comfortable.
Phil, a Louisiana native, founded Duck Commander in 1972 with his patented duck call. Duck Dynasty, which aired from 2012 to 2017, followed the Robertson family and their business. A revival of the show is expected to premiere on A&E this summer.
