Alison Krauss delivered a soul-stirring, angelic rendition of “Amazing Grace” at the Memorial Day Concert that left the entire crowd breathless. She began quietly, standing alone with her violin. The moment her bow touched the strings, time seemed to pause—you could’ve heard a pin drop in the hush that fell over the audience. Then, she began to sing. Her voice, soft as a prayer and pure as morning light, wrapped around every word and floated through the air like a blessing. The camera cut to veterans in the crowd—some stood frozen, others wiped away silent tears, their hearts clearly moved by her tribute to the fallen.

Country Artists Participate In Memorial Day Tradition

In 2019, country and bluegrass singer Alison Krauss delivered an angelic rendition of “Amazing Grace” during an annual event that carries a lot of meaning.

For the past several decades, singers of all genres have come together for one important purpose. To honor America’s fallen heroes.

On the last Sunday in May, these artists unite to film what has become known as the National Memorial Day Concert. The free concert takes place on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., and airs on PBS.

Country stars have often been asked to perform at the concert. Those who have songs dedicated to the military, such as Trace Adkins, are even more likely to be invited.

Adkins once appeared at the concert to sing his powerful song “Arlington,” which tells the story of a fallen Marine whose final resting place is in Arlington National Cemetery.

Another country artist who participated in the National Memorial Day Concert in the past is Scotty McCreery. His song “The Dash” tells the story of another fallen hero.

In 2019, Justin Moore was called to participate in the concert as one of the representatives of country music. He performed his heartbreaking song “The Ones That Didn’t Make It Back Home,” which recognizes all military members, first responders, and others who never returned home.

Alison Krauss Delivers Chill-Inducing Memorial Day Performance Of “Amazing Grace”

Another member of the country music community who participated in the 2019 National Memorial Day Concert was Alison Krauss. She performed a fitting song for the occasion…the beloved Christian hymn “Amazing Grace.”

Krauss opened the performance by playing her violin. The crowd was so quiet at the time that you could’ve heard a pin drop.

After her short instrumental solo, Krauss moved into singing. Her soft and angelic voice soared through the words with ease and enchanted all who watched her.

The camera panned to a group of veterans in the crowd, who appeared to be in awe as they listened to Krauss honor their fallen brothers and sisters.

Krauss’ performance grew grander as it continued, with additional instrumentals and a backing choir joining in. This added even more power to the already impactful performance.

Watch Krauss honor our fallen heroes by watching her Memorial Day performance of “Amazing Grace” below. She did such a stunning job.
