If you haven’t heard Chris Stapleton pour his soul into “Whipping Post” yet, you’re seriously missing out. Nobody dares touch the Allman Brothers and Gregg Allman on this track—until now. But the moment you hear Chris let loose, it’s like the song was waiting for him all along.

Country Megastar Tackles An Allman Brothers Classic

Whipping Post

We’ve been fans of Chris Stapleton since he took the world by the collar in 2015 with his now iconic “Tennessee Whiskey” performance at the Country Music Awards, and we haven’t looked back. In the year since his meteoric rise to fame, Stapleton has shown his versatility as an artist, bridging the gap between country, blues, and rock for some seriously killer takes on the songs that have kept us rocking for decades. While on Nashville’s Skyville Live, Stapleton picked up his guitar and launched into a blues soaked spin on the Allman Brothers Band’s iconic jam “Whipping Post” and y’all, he absolutely tore it up.

Chris Stapleton Pays Tribute To Gregg Allman With 2015 Live Performance Of 'Whipping Post'

Harnessing that bourbon drenched sound that made Gregg Allman one of the most fiercely respected vocalists in the Southern rock pantheon, highlighted by a backing band that’s so good we walked away praying to whatever deity is listening that Chris Stapleton will take a break from country and record a proper blues album with them at some point. If you haven’t seen Chris tear up “Whipping Post” yet, you’re missing out in a big way – do yourselves a favor and run, don’t walk right on down to the video below and give it a spin!
