Dr. Janette Nesheiwat’s nomination for Surgeon General by President Trump was withdrawn following questions about her credentials. Though she completed her residency at the University of Arkansas, her LinkedIn falsely listed it as the institution where she earned her M.D. Instead, she graduated from the American University of the Caribbean. Her departure was confirmed by Senator Bernie Sanders’ office and first reported by Bloomberg News.
Trump has now nominated Dr. Casey Means, a health advocate linked to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whose “Make America Healthy Again” initiative aligns with Trump’s messaging. Means was reportedly favored by Kennedy’s allies over Nesheiwat. Despite her withdrawal, Nesheiwat stated she would continue working with Secretary Kennedy in a policy role.
Trump’s approval rating has surged, reaching 53%, with strong gains among young voters, Democrats, independents, and Black Americans. A recent J.L. Partners/Daily Mail poll showed a 13-point jump among voters aged 18–29 and a 17-point rise among Black voters.
Business owners are also viewing Trump favorably. A RedBalloon/PublicSquare survey of 50,000 small businesses showed optimism for economic growth. Consultant TaChelle Lawson gave Trump a B+ for his business-first focus, though she noted his messaging still needs work.
