Court docs: Mother shot man trying to rape her 12-year-old daughter in Indy hotel

A mother in Indianapolis opened fire on Bruce Pierce inside a Baymont Inn hotel room on May 24 after allegedly finding him on top of her 12-year-old daughter, attempting to force her to remove her clothes. According to court documents, the girl had gone to the hotel with her great aunt to locate her mother; Pierce joined them and escorted the pair to a room on Eagle View Drive. When the mother stepped away briefly to carry bags to a car, Pierce remained alone with the child.

Upon returning, the mother discovered Pierce pinning her daughter to the bed and removing the child’s tank top. Witnesses say Pierce had a firearm on or near him during the assault. The mother immediately yelled at Pierce, drew her own weapon, and shot him multiple times. After the shooting, she and her daughter fled the scene, and hotel staff called 911.

Pierce, a convicted child molester who served an eight-year sentence beginning in 2016, was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. He now faces four separate felony counts: Level 1 attempted rape, Level 4 unlawful possession of a firearm, Level 5 attempted child molestation, and Level 1 confinement. An arrest warrant has been issued to formally book him on these charges once he is cleared from the hospital.

The 12-year-old victim was transported to Riley Children’s Hospital for examination following the incident. As of the latest reports, Pierce remains hospitalized and under police guard. Indianapolis Metropolitan Police confirm that the warrant remains active pending his release.
