’The System Killed My Children’: Mother Of 3 Blames Police After Tragic Deaths

Whitney Decker’s world shattered when her three daughters—Paityn, 9, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia, 5—were found dead at a campground after a missed visitation with their father, Travis Decker. Despite her pleas and concerns over his worsening mental health, authorities declined to issue an Amber Alert. The girls were discovered with their wrists zip-tied and suffocated with plastic bags. Travis, a former Army Ranger with survival skills and a history of PTSD, vanished into the woods and remains at large.

Whitney had warned officials about Decker’s unstable behavior, including past outbursts, homelessness, and failure to follow custody agreements. She described incidents where the girls were left unattended or exposed to unsafe conditions, yet still hoped to maintain their father-daughter bond. However, she noted his recent odd behavior before the visit—quiet, detached, and talking about selling his dog.

Authorities now believe Decker premeditated the killings. Court documents reveal that Whitney had tried to protect her daughters through legal channels, citing his refusal to seek mental health help or maintain housing. Despite this, she acknowledged he had always returned the girls and had a loving relationship with them—until this final, fatal act.

Travis Decker is now wanted on three counts of murder and kidnapping. His abandoned truck was found near the girls’ bodies, with signs of recent activity at the campsite. Authorities—including U.S. Marshals and Homeland Security—are searching for him and offering a $20,000 reward for information. The community, meanwhile, mourns the loss of three innocent lives in a tragedy many believe could have been prevented.
