A devastating fire tore through a two-story home on Calle 9 in Berazategui, Buenos Aires Province, late on the night of November 25, 2021. The blaze began around 11:30 p.m., rapidly consuming the house. Neighbors reported hearing explosions before seeing flames, suggesting the fire spread almost instantly. A family of six was inside at the time—four children aged 8 to 16 were asleep upstairs while their parents were in a rear bedroom.
Tragically, the children became trapped in the front room and were unable to escape. Despite desperate attempts to reach them, including one by their uncle Hugo—who was injured trying to break in—the fire moved too quickly. Hugo later recalled the heart-wrenching screams of the children and how a sudden explosion knocked him back before he could reach them.
The local fire department, located just ten blocks away, reportedly took 15 to 20 minutes to arrive. By then, the home was fully engulfed, and the children had already lost their lives. Firefighters were able to put out the flames, but the damage had been done. Preliminary reports suggest a possible electrical short circuit, possibly from a fan or charger, though the exact cause remains under investigation.
