He highlighted a surprising shift in voter sentiment: many immigrant citizens are moving rightward on immigration issues. Enten noted that support for Donald Trump among immigrant voters has grown significantly since 2016.
According to Enten, this shift is particularly evident in the 2024 and 2025 election cycles, with Trump’s approval among immigrant citizens climbing from 36% in 2016 to as high as 47%. Many now favor stricter immigration enforcement and echo Republican concerns about illegal immigration.
This emerging trend suggests a broader political realignment. Immigrant voters, once considered reliably Democratic, are showing increasing support for Republican immigration policies.
