The Salamanca community is mourning the tragic loss of 10-year-old Dulce Victoria, whose body was found after falling into the Lerma River last Thursday. Her disappearance prompted an intense two-day search, which ended Saturday morning when rescue teams recovered her body. Hopes of finding her alive had gripped the town, making the discovery even more heartbreaking.
According to official reports, Dulce had been playing near the river with a friend when the two were swept into the current. The boy managed to cling to a tree and was rescued, but Dulce was carried away. Emergency services were notified around 3:15 p.m. on June 12, and search efforts began immediately, spanning multiple municipalities.
In a statement, the Salamanca Municipal Government expressed its deepest condolences to Dulce’s family and acknowledged the pain the community is experiencing. “With profound respect, the Municipal Government regrets this painful outcome and expresses its solidarity and support to the minor’s family,” the message read. They also reaffirmed their commitment to respond with responsibility and humanity in situations that affect the community.
Local hero Liborio Vázquez and the Salamanca Rescue Brigade were praised for their relentless efforts. The operation included support from authorities in Irapuato, Pueblo Nuevo, and Huanímaro, as well as teams from Civil Protection, the Fire Department, the Red Cross, and diving units. The tragedy has united the community in grief, while also highlighting the dedication of those who worked tirelessly to bring Dulce home.
