‘American Idol’ finalist Breanna Nix was told not to do it. Friends, mentors—even family—warned her that auditioning could ruin everything she’d worked for. “It’ll mess up your life,” they said. But she walked into that room anyway, heart pounding, ready to risk it all—and now the world knows her name.

Having a dream of becoming a hit singer and pursuing a career in the music industry, life had other plans for Breanna Nix as she became a stay-at-home mom. Although loving her life as a mother, she felt compelled to audition for season 23 of American Idol. And following that feeling, it landed her in the season finale. While Nix ended up finishing in third place, the singer watched as the moment took her to the Grand Ole Opry. With the last few months a whirlwind for Nix, she looked back on the decision to audition and revealed how some people around her pushed back on the idea.

Since leaving the American Idol stage, Nix wasted no time gaining her footing in the music industry. She released her first single with “Higher” and even debuted at the Grand Ole Opry. Receiving a standing ovation for her performance, the singer proved that coming in third on American Idol wasn’t the end for her career.

But even before auditioning, Nix’s dream almost ended. Answering fan questions on her Instagram Stories, the singer revealed, “Specifically in this season that I have been in, I have had to walk almost, like, blinded if that makes any sense. Just a hundred percent in faith. There was a lot of people in my life that I looked up to over the years that told me to not go on ‘American Idol,’ that it would ruin so many things that I had going for me, and that that could not be from God, yada yada yada.”

The Lesson Breanna Nix Wanted To Teach Her Son

Although listening to the feedback from those around her, Nix leaned on her faith for guidance. “I knew that God spoke to me, and I knew that God told me to go on ‘American Idol. And I’m so thankful and so happy that I obeyed his voice and I went.”

With Nix wanting to set a great example for her son, Emerson, she hoped that he would learn from her decision to trust God. “God has been with me through every part of the journey. Even after ‘American Idol,’ before, the whole season in itself. And I think that’s the biggest thing I want (Emerson) to take away, or to pass down (to him), is just to obey the voice of God, and to trust him.”

As for the future, Nix revealed she was currently working on new music but didn’t have permission to share it just yet. But with the singer focused on her career, it’s only a matter of time before she added to her discography.
