Teen Flipping Burgers in Graduation Gown Sparks $230,000 in Donations

Just hours after graduating from Mill Creek High School, 18-year-old Mykale Baker returned to work at Burger King—still wearing his graduation stole and medals. While his classmates celebrated, he quietly stepped behind the counter to help during a busy shift, not realizing his small act of dedication would soon capture national attention.

Baker had initially gone to the restaurant with his mother and grandmother to celebrate. But seeing the team short-staffed, he immediately jumped in to assist. One customer that night, Maria Mendoza, was touched by his joyful spirit and humility. She posted a short TikTok video of him, encouraging others to take notice.

The video quickly went viral, earning over 4.5 million views. Inspired by the response, Mendoza launched a GoFundMe to help fund Baker’s college dreams. Donations flooded in, eventually surpassing $230,000—far beyond the original $60,000 goal. The Burger King Foundation also joined in with a $10,000 scholarship.

Now planning to pursue technical college and a career in mechanics, Baker remains humble and grateful. His quiet commitment to doing the right thing—even on graduation day—became a powerful example of integrity and hard work, inspiring people across the country.
