In a tearful interview, Reba McEntire opened up about the devastating 1991 plane crash that claimed the lives of her entire band—and the unexpected angel who helped her through it: Dolly Parton. “She called and said, ‘Reba, if you need a band, mine’s yours,’” Reba recalled, voice trembling. That simple act of kindness, offered without hesitation, became a lifeline. “She was an angel in rhinestones,” Reba said, crediting Dolly’s support with helping her find the strength to keep going.

Reba McEntire Shared A Story Of Dolly Parton’s Extreme Kindness

If you’ve been a devoted country music fan for a while, you’ve likely heard the heartbreaking story of how Reba McEntire lost all her band members in a tragic plane crash.

On March 16, 1991, at 2 AM, Reba received a call in her hotel room with the devastating news that she had lost her entire band along with her tour manager. They were departing from one of her recent shows in San Diego, where they had just performed for a group of IBM executives, and were heading to Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Tragically, those who lost their lives that day included:

Jim Hammon (tour manager), Kirk Cappello (keyboardist), Joey Cigainero (keyboardist), Tony Saputo (drummer), Michael Thomas (guitarists), Chris Austin (guitarists), Terry Jackson (bassist), Paula Kaye Evans (backup singer), Donald Holmes (pilot), and Christopher Hollinger (pilot).

Reba was supposed to be on the plane, but decided at the last minute to remain in San Diego because she was feeling a bit unwell.

Her husband at the time, Narvel Blackstock, and her stylist, Sandy Spika, stayed with her while the rest of her crew took two separate planes, one of which crashed.

Reba was awarded the Top Female Vocalist at the ACM Awards that year and dedicated her win to her lost bandmates shortly after the crash. You can watch her heartfelt speech below.

Dolly Parton Offered The Most Stunning Show Of Support

What many might not realize, as Reba shared in an interview with Variety Magazine, is that Dolly Parton reached out to offer her immense support.

In 2021, Dolly Parton and Reba McIntyre collaborated on the song “Does He Love You?” Check out their official music video below.

When discussing the song with a reporter, Reba mentioned that Dolly Parton had called her and offered her entire band so Reba could continue touring.

‘What do you need? Do you want my band?’ She sent Gary Smith, her band leader, to put a band together for me. She and Vince Gill were right there for me the whole time.”

This kind act isn’t unusual for Dolly Parton, yet it’s clear it still touches Reba’s heart to this day. Vince Gill also offered to play in her band and sing with her if needed. Reba’s two friends showed up for her when she needed them.

The connection between an artist and their band is incredibly significant, with some bandmates touring alongside the same artist for lifetimes.

Dolly Parton extending this offer was no small gesture. Watch her heartfelt interview below.

23/07/2025 X Miranda Lambert, Kelly Clarkson, and Texas Country Heavyweights Are Banding Together for Flood Victims at One Hell of a Benefit Show Miranda Lambert and Kelly Clarkson casually serving star power before joining forces to turn a benefit concert into a full-blown country revival. Some shows are for fun. This one’s for something bigger. On August 17, Texas will do what Texas does best—show up for its own. After historic flooding ripped through the Hill Country over the Fourth of July weekend, leaving behind devastation and heartbreak, some of the Lone Star State’s biggest names in country music are stepping up to help their neighbors. And they’re doing it the only way Texans know how: loud, proud, and together. The Band Together Texas benefit concert is bringing a powerhouse lineup to the Moody Center in Austin for a night of healing, heart, and hard-hitting country music. Leading the charge? None other than Miranda Lambert and Parker McCollum, two Texas natives who’ve turned their mics into megaphones for a cause that hits close to home. They won’t be alone. Cody Johnson, Kelly Clarkson, Ronnie Dunn, Lyle Lovett, Wade Bowen, Ryan Bingham, Jack Ingram, Lukas Nelson, Dylan Gossett, Jon Randall, and the Randy Rogers Band are all set to take the stage. That’s not a concert. That’s a Texas-sized who’s who of country grit and greatness. Toss in appearances by Matthew McConaughey, Dennis Quaid, Vince Young, Colt McCoy, Mack Brown, Roger Clemens, and Emmanuel Acho, and you’ve got a full-blown cultural moment. This isn’t just a night of music. It’s a statement. Texas takes care of its people. The flooding, which claimed over 130 lives and left dozens still missing, hit the heart of Texas Hill Country. Roads were swallowed. Homes were wrecked. Entire communities were left picking up the pieces. But as the waters receded, something else rose. Texan resolve. And now, Band Together Texas is channeling that spirit onto the stage, with proceeds going directly to The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country and the Central Texas Community Foundation. McCollum, a Conroe native, called the scenes “truly heartbreaking” and said what most Texans are thinking: “There’s a long road ahead, but we’re Texas strong.” Lambert, always one to lead with her heart, echoed that sentiment. “We show up for one another,” she said. “That’s what we want to do with Band Together. Texans helping Texas.” If there’s one thing country music gets right, it’s turning pain into purpose. And this lineup has the storytelling firepower to bring healing in the most country way possible, through lyrics that cut deep and choruses that lift you up. It’s gonna be loud. It’s gonna be emotional. And it’s gonna be exactly what Texas needs. Presale registration is live now at BandTogetherTexas.com, running through Monday, July 21, at 5 p.m. CT. Fans will get their presale password the next day. The actual presale starts Wednesday, July 23, at 10 a.m. CT. The general sale opens Friday, July 25. No fancy gimmicks. No over-polished platitudes. Just artists, athletes, and actors showing up, guitars in hand, boots on, to raise money and raise spirits. This is country music doing what it was built to do. Showing up when it matters most. So circle August 17, dust off your boots, and remember why we call this place home. Because when Texas hurts, Texas doesn’t just pray. It plays. And it plays loud.
