At least eight killed in horrific hot

A devastating tragedy unfolded in Praia Grande, Brazil, when a hot air balloon carrying 21 people caught fire midair and crashed, killing eight and injuring thirteen. What began as a scenic flight turned into a nightmare when flames erupted in the balloon’s basket. The pilot, acting swiftly, ordered an emergency jump, saving some lives—but others never made it out.

Witnesses described the horror: some passengers leapt from the balloon engulfed in flames, while others perished in the crash. Among the victims were families, a figure skater, and a local doctor. “We saw people fall while on fire,” one resident said. Emergency responders rushed to the scene, but the destruction was already done.

Authorities are investigating what caused the blaze. A possible gas leak from a backup burner is being considered. The tour operator insists safety protocols were followed, but all operations have been suspended as the inquiry unfolds. The Brazilian aviation agency and police are collecting testimonies from survivors and reviewing the balloon’s equipment.

The entire country is in mourning. President Lula and Governor Jorginho Mello expressed condolences and pledged support to victims’ families. As ballooning faces renewed scrutiny in Brazil, this tragic flight stands as a grim reminder of how quickly joy can turn into sorrow. Our hearts go out to all affected.
