While enjoying a laid-back day on Lake Texoma, Blake Shelton traded his mic stand for a boat deck—but still brought the music. Clad in swim trunks, a tropical shirt, and a “Captain” hat, Shelton made time to meet with a disabled veteran onboard, turning the casual outing into a heartfelt moment. In true country fashion, the singer even delivered a surprise tribute performance, serenading the veteran with a personal song—proving once again that behind the fame is a heart as big as Oklahoma.

Blake Shelton took time to meet with a disabled Veteran on Independence Day while boating on Lake Texoma.

According to Jason Morgan, a retired SSgt. US Air Force Special Operations Command (Airborne), Shelton was at Highpoint Marina in Pottsboro, Texas on Monday (July 4) when he heard a disabled Veteran (Morgan) was on a boat nearby. The country superstar took time to meet with Staff Sergeant Morgan, who later documented their meeting on social media.

“Great hanging out with Blake Shelton on our boat. Happy Independence Day,” Morgan wrote. “We were at the same gas dock and someone told Blake that a disabled veteran was in one of the boats gassing up and he come over to meet me.  I was very appreciative.”

Shelton, sporting swim trunks, a Hawaiian-style shirt, and a hat that said “Captain” on it, even posed for a photo with Morgan while on his boat.

The comments section of Morgan’s post was flooded with comments as his followers praised the longtime The Voice coach for taking the time to meet him.

“How dang cool is this !! Thrilled Blake is an overall good guy,” a Facebook user wrote, while another shared, “Happy 4th of July to you! Blake Shelton is the best!”

According to Staff Sergeant Jason Morgan’s website, he was injured after being deployed to South America on a counter-narcotics mission in 1999. While in a remote area of Ecuador, Morgan’s unit was involved in an altercation with drug traffickers and his driver lost control of their SUV, causing it to launch off the road and into a steep ravine. Morgan was ejected from the vehicle and suffered a severely crushed spine.

His website reads, “As he lay left for dead drowning with his face submerged in swampy water, a miracle occurred. An American missionary working on radio towers in the area came upon the scene quite by chance and saved Jason’s life. He proceeded to extract him from the mud and water and was able to coordinate the difficult evacuation of the victims by using his shortwave radio which was the only available working communication in the remote area.”

Morgan awoke from a coma two months later with no memories of the incident. He was paralyzed from the waist down and went on to endure 3.5 years of hospitalizations and numerous surgeries.

Staff Sergeant Jason Morgan is now a motivational speaker and best-selling author. His book, A Dog Called Hope, A Wounded Warrior and the Dog That Saved Him, was inspired by his first service dog and shares his inspirational story.

Blake Shelton recently celebrated his first wedding anniversary with his wife, Gwen Stefani. He documented the occasion with a sweet message to Stefani, calling it the “best year” of his life.

Stefani also shared never-before-seen videos from their wedding day.
