A thoughtful First Lady “Time for prayer”: Melania Trump offers comfort after camp mystic tragedy

As devastating floods swept through central Texas this week, claiming 27 lives—including nine children—First Lady Melania Trump offered a heartfelt message of support to grieving families. Posting to X, she wrote, “During this trying time, my thoughts and prayers are with the parents in Texas… I’m praying for you and keeping you in my prayers for fortitude and consolation.”

The tragedy struck hardest at Camp Mystic in Kerr County, where rising floodwaters destroyed cabins and swept away dozens. Survivors like 13-year-old Elinor Lester described scenes of chaos—children clinging to ropes, helicopters rescuing campers, and entire structures collapsing in minutes.

President Donald Trump also addressed the disaster, calling it “shocking” and vowing that the federal government would assist Texas fully. Over 400 responders are on-site, using helicopters and drones in ongoing rescue efforts as more than 20 children remain missing.

Melania’s message served as a symbol of empathy during a time of heartbreaking loss. As the nation braces for more rain and rising rivers, her words remind us of the power of unity, compassion, and shared humanity in the face of disaster.
