“Please, God… Just Five More Minutes” — Scotty McCreery Breaks Down After Losing Both Grandmas. Scotty McCreery just lived a nightmare no grandchild ever wants to face—he lost both of his grandmas on the same day. “My heart’s shattered,” he said, barely able to speak. His hands shook, eyes red from crying. Through the tears, he shared his last words to each of them—soft, loving goodbyes. Then, with a broken voice, he sang “Five More Minutes,” the song he once wrote for his grandpa. But this time, it hit harder. Every word was a cry from the heart: “Please, God… just five more minutes with her.”

Scotty McCreery Says He Is “Heartbroken” After Losing Both Of His Grandmothers

Country singer Scotty McCreery took to social media to mourn two huge losses. Both his maternal and paternal grandmothers passed away on Wednesday (July 9).

He shared a photo of them both standing alongside him and his wife, Gabi, on their wedding day, writing, “My heart is absolutely broken. Yesterday, both my Grandma Janet and my Grandma Paquita passed away. I think I am still in a bit of shock as I type this, but I’m choosing to remember the great memories we all made with both of them. There really are too many to count.”

McCreery continued, “From being on the farm in Elizabeth City or visiting the Outer Banks with Grandma Janet. And then the incredible memories we made at the backyard pool in Pinehurst, all the way to visiting Puerto Rico with Grandma Paquita. Both of them truly taught me what love is all about. I will miss them dearly. If yall could keep my family in your prayers I’d appreciate it.”

Scotty’s mother, Judy, also shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook. Her mother, Janet, was 85 years old. She passed away shortly after 1 PM on July 9 after battling norovirus and the flu, which then led to dehydration and pneumonia.

I have to accept it was her time,” Judy said.

She continued, “This is hard to fathom, but we also lost Mike’s mom, Paquita, yesterday, a few hours later, at 4pm.”

Judy shared that Paquita was 93 and “had been in declining health.”

Family Means Everything To Scotty

Scotty McCreery is a family man down to his core. He was raised in a close-knit family, being incredibly close to both sets of grandparents. He is now instilling the same values he was raised on onto his children. He is dad to Avery, and gearing up to welcome his second child with his wife, Gabi.

His closeness to his grandparents was detailed in his song “Five More Minutes,” where he begs to have just five more minutes with his late grandfather. The song’s music video has been viewed over 159 million times, so there are lots of people who can relate to his plea.
