Prince Al-Waleed bin Khaled bin Talal Al Saud, often referred to as the “Sleeping Prince,” has passed away at the age of 36. He had been in a coma since 2005 after a devastating car accident in London during his teenage years, which caused severe brain damage and internal bleeding. Despite immediate medical intervention, he never regained consciousness.
For two decades, Prince Al-Waleed remained on life support at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Saudi Arabia. His father, Prince Khaled bin Talal, announced the death on July 19, expressing deep sorrow and faith in God’s will. In 2019, Prince Al-Waleed briefly made small movements, such as raising a finger and turning his head, but never fully regained awareness.
Tributes have poured in from around the world. The Global Imams Council and other prominent figures offered condolences to the royal family, honoring the prince’s long and quiet battle. Social media was filled with messages of support, remembrance, and prayers for his soul.
Funeral prayers for Prince Al-Waleed are expected to be held at Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh. His passing marks the end of a 20-year vigil, and many remember him as a symbol of strength, patience, and unwavering family devotion.
