After Giving Birth to Her 3rd Child, She Collapsed – Then Learned She’d Been Living with Incurable Cancer for 5 Years

Michelle Hughes first felt pain beneath her ribs during pregnancy in 2016, which doctors brushed off as normal. An ultrasound showed a benign liver issue, and she went on to have three children. But the discomfort never fully left, and despite multiple ER visits over the years, tests kept showing nothing serious.

Everything changed in 2021 when Michelle collapsed shortly after giving birth to her son. Doctors discovered that her lungs and liver were full of tumors. A biopsy revealed a rare, incurable cancer called epithelioid hemangioendothelioma (EHE). Hopes for a transplant were crushed when scans showed it had already spread too far.

Michelle struggled with the diagnosis, especially while holding her newborn and fearing he’d never remember her. But a sarcoma expert reminded her she had already lived with the cancer for years—through births, stress, and even internal bleeding—proof of her resilience. Inspired, Michelle found hope and started exercising, eventually pushing herself to run races and train again.

In 2024, she completed a full triathlon with her kids in her arms at the finish line. Her story, shared through her journal and social media, now inspires hundreds of thousands. Michelle’s focus remains on living joyfully, even if just for a moment each day. Her dream? To see her youngest son off to his first day of school—and she’s not letting go of that goal.
