When pressed by a reporter, Trump dismissed the renewed attention with just six words: “You’ve got to be kidding me.” He also accused CNN of spreading “fake news” by taking harmless event footage out of context.
Despite promising to release all Epstein-related documents, Trump’s Justice Department stopped short in July 2025, stating there was “no basis” for further disclosure and claiming no incriminating client list existed. This sparked public suspicion, with some alleging Trump was hiding something.
Trump’s past with Epstein includes appearances together in the 1980s and 1990s, including at a 1999 Victoria’s Secret event. A photographer confirmed Epstein’s presence at Trump’s second wedding but lamented not capturing more photos of them together.
The White House dismissed the renewed scrutiny as politically motivated, claiming Trump had long since cut ties with Epstein, even banning him from Mar-a-Lago. Still, critics say the administration’s reluctance to release more documents raises questions about transparency.
