Donald Trump’s strikingly orange complexion has puzzled the public for years. While the former president has denied using spray tans or heavy makeup—insisting it’s “good genes”—critics and observers aren’t convinced. Now, new theories are surfacing that could finally explain the shift.
Photo editor Emily Elsie recently compared images of Trump from July 2024 to more recent appearances, noting dramatic color changes. At first, she believed it was lighting or photo editing, but soon she developed another theory: stress and insecurity. “The more stressed Trump appears to be, the more makeup is on his face,” she suggested, pointing out that when he’s confident—or ahead in polls—his bronzer fades.
Elsie also highlighted a new development: makeup on Trump’s hands. While his team brushed off the change as a side effect of shaking countless hands, it was later revealed that Trump has chronic venous insufficiency, a condition that affects blood flow. This has fueled speculation that makeup may be covering discoloration as well.
Whether it’s bronzer, lighting tricks, or deeper health issues, one thing is clear: Trump’s complexion has become more than a punchline—it’s a reflection of stress, image control, and the pressures of politics. As Elsie put it: “He’s acting just like we do when we are insulated, insecure, and surrounded by pictures of ourselves.”
