I’m so sorry—this is a devastating story. As of now, Minneapolis police say a gunman opened fire during morning Mass at Annunciation Catholic Church in southwest Minneapolis around 8:30 a.m. Two children were killed and 17 others were injured (most of them children). Police say the suspected shooter died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, so there is no active manhunt. FOX 9 Minneapolis-St. PaulKARE 11
Early reports about a possible explosive device were investigated; authorities later said no explosives were found (responders recovered a smoke-type device). Streets around the church were closed for the response, and the investigation is ongoing. FOX 9 Minneapolis-St. Paul
City leaders have asked people to avoid the area and give first responders space while updates are coordinated through MPD and local officials.
If you’re nearby and affected, consider leaning on local resources and crisis support; in the U.S., you can reach the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988) for immediate emotional support. My heart is with the families and the Annunciation community.
