Three Young Indiana Sisters Found Dead at Home – Their Heartbroken Father Speaks Out

Police in Wolcottville discovered the bodies of Rebecca Hughes, 32, and her three daughters—Evalynn, 8, Allison, 6, and Amelia, 5—during a welfare check at their South Main Street home. Indiana State Police are leading the investigation; autopsies have been completed, and toxicology results are pending. Authorities say there is no immediate threat to the public.

The girls’ father, Jonathan Newell, said he had been seeking visitation while balancing court dates and a demanding work schedule. He learned of the tragedy after seeing worrying social media posts and contacting police, who later notified him in person. He described feelings of shock, grief, guilt, and disbelief.

The tight-knit community has responded with a growing memorial of flowers, stuffed animals, and notes outside the home. Neighbors and parishioners remembered the children as kind and recalled recent, ordinary interactions with Rebecca that make the loss even harder to comprehend.

A GoFundMe created by Jonathan quickly surpassed its goal to help cover funeral costs. Friends urged compassion for all involved, noting Rebecca may have faced significant mental-health challenges. As the investigation continues, community members are focusing on support, remembrance, and avoiding premature conclusions.
