“Who would have thought that day would come – when even the most powerful coaches couldn’t hold back their tears…” Kelly Clarkson Returns To “The Voice” For Season Finale Performance, and her powerful performance left the entire stage breathless. Blake Shelton – the “cold cowboy” icon, John Legend – the elegant gentleman, Gwen Stefani – the proud punk rocker, and Niall Horan – the romantic guy from One Direction, all shed tears. In front of Kelly’s soaring, emotional voice, they were not just coaches, but like small audiences silently trembling before the musical miracle. That finale was no longer a TV show – but a reminder that music can break even the most seemingly hardened hearts.

Kelly Clarkson returned to her old The Voice stomping grounds to perform her latest single, “Where Have You Been.”

Four seasons ago, Kelly Clarkson abandoned her red Voice coach’s chair to focus on her self-titled talk show. On Monday, the “Since U Been Gone” singer returned to the iconic studio at Universal Studios in Hollywood where she served as a coach for nine seasons.

She took the stage to perform her latest single, “Where Have You Been.” The song was released in early May 2025 and marked a milestone moment for Clarkson.

In January, the American Idol champ revealed that she had started her own record label, High Road Records, and left her longtime label, Atlantic Records. The new single was written by Clarkson and her guitarist, Jaco Caraco, and marks her first independent release since leaving Atlantic.

Kelly Clarkson shared the inspiration behind her new song.

In a video posted to The Kelly Clarkson Show‘s YouTube channel, Kelly revealed that legendary actor Martin Short’s character inspired the song in Only Murders in the Building.

“I love Martin Short, and I’ve always loved him. I believe it’s the first time Meryl [Streep] came in that show, but she was on stage, and — it was about Martin Short’s face,” Kelly explained.

“He came up, and he was just in such awe. It was just a pure moment, and everything on his face when he said those words, he looked at her, and he was just so in awe, and he was like, ‘Where have you been?’”

Clarkson said that she kept going back to that scene with Martin Short and compared it to the heartbreak she’s endured in recent years.

“I thought I had found what it was going to be. I thought this. I was wrong,” said Clarkson. “But now you see it standing in front of you. I was so moved, and so that whole song came out of those words from Martin Short.”
