Outgrowing Denim?
While many activities come with age-based restrictions—like driving or booking a hotel—some habits seem to fade with age. One unexpected example? Wearing jeans. A growing number of fashion observers suggest that there may be an age limit to denim, and statistics seem to back them up.
The Survey Says…
A UK courier company, CollectPlus, surveyed 2,000 shoppers and uncovered that by age 53, most people struggle to find a pair of jeans that fits comfortably. This isn’t about trends or fashion rules—it’s about practicality. The study showed that many over-50 shoppers tried on multiple styles before finding a suitable pair, and for some, the experience was stressful enough to bring them to tears.
Jeans Shopping: A Stressful Science
The survey revealed that jeans shopping ranks as one of the most frustrating fashion experiences. Stress peaks around age 53, with six percent of respondents admitting to crying during the search. On average, shoppers spend five to eight days looking for the perfect pair, which may explain why most people wait years before replacing them.
Denim Devotion Lives On
Still, if you love your jeans and wear them into your golden years—go for it. The numbers may point to challenges, but they don’t dictate style. Comfort, confidence, and self-expression matter more than surveys. Consider this a friendly reminder that fashion has no expiration date if it still brings you joy.
