Health Alert at Major U.S. Airport
Health officials have issued a warning following a potential measles exposure at Chicago O’Hare International Airport, one of the busiest airports in the world. An infected adult, who had received one dose of the MMR vaccine, was present in Terminal 1 on April 22 and 23, between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m., potentially exposing hundreds of travelers to the highly contagious virus.
Confirmed Infection and Isolation
The infected person developed symptoms, including a rash, on April 25, and later tested positive for measles. After diagnosis, they began isolating at home. Although partially vaccinated, one dose of the MMR vaccine does not guarantee full protection, leaving the individual susceptible to infection.
Second Case in Illinois
A second measles case has also been confirmed in an adult living in the same county in Illinois. This person’s vaccination status is currently unknown, but they sought treatment at a local hospital on April 28 and were promptly isolated to prevent further spread.
Public Health Advisory
Officials are urging anyone who passed through Terminal 1 during the affected times to monitor for symptoms—such as fever, cough, and rash—and to contact their healthcare provider if concerned. This incident adds to a growing number of measles scares affecting major U.S. airports and communities, emphasizing the importance of full vaccination.
