ICON DEAD šŸ˜šŸ’” With heavy hearts, we announce the passing

Rick Davies, co-founder of Supertramp, shaped the sound of a generation with his voice, piano, and songwriting. Hits like The Logical Song, Goodbye Stranger, and Take the Long Way Home cemented the band’s place in rock history. On September 5, at age 81, Davies passed away peacefully at his Long Island home after a long battle with cancer. Despite being diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2015, he remained connected to music until the end.

Born in Swindon, England, Davies struggled in school but found his passion in music. That passion led to Supertramp’s formation in 1969 alongside Roger Hodgson. Though they came from different backgrounds, their creative partnership created timeless songs that resonated with millions. Their 1979 album Breakfast in America became a global success, topping charts and earning Grammy nominations.

Creative differences eventually split the duo, with Hodgson leaving in 1983. Davies kept Supertramp alive for decades, even reviving it in the 1990s with new members. After his diagnosis, he stepped away from touring but continued to engage with music. He later found joy in playing with a small local band, embracing the simplicity of music once again.

Rick was more than a performer—he was a devoted husband and a warm soul. Supertramp’s tribute honored his soulful voice and signature Wurlitzer sound. For fans around the world, he leaves behind not just hits, but a soundtrack to their memories. Though his final bow has come, his music continues to echo—a lasting gift to generations.
